The trip began in earnest on our second day in Costa Rica. We rode by bus over the Pan American Highway, stopping at a workshop where they make highly decorated ox carts. Then we took an unpaved road to eventually arrive at Monte Verdi.
While in Monte Verdi, we took a hike through the Cloud Forest Preserve seeing many birds, monkeys (white faced and howlers), a sloth, and hummingbirds. Elsewhere around the Monte Verdi area we saw other birds, animals, and butterflies.
One afternoon, several of us split off from the main group and tried out a "canopy tour" or zipline. As with all canopy tour operators, ours said it was the highest (440 meters off the ground at one point), fastest (reaching up to 50 MPH), and longest. We can't vouch for the accuracy of all this, but it was quite an adrenaline rush!
