On our first day aboard the Yangzi Explorer, we had to pass through the locks at the 3 Gorges dam. The reservoir level was about 170 meters, so we had 4 locks to pass through, which took about three and a half hours. The first one was interesting, the rest not so much.
Once we were through the locks, we had an excursion to a few sites around the dam, including a visitors center with a model of the area, and views down on the locks and the dam itself.
