On the day we arrived in Athens we checked into our hotel which had a view of the Parliament and Acropolis. It was still daylight, so we wandered around the Plaka area, and over to the Temple of Zeus.
The next day, we took a tour up to Delphi, to see the Temple of Apollo, and it's museum. It was three hours each way, so we also had a chance to see a portion of central Greece.
The third day started with a visit to the Archeology Museum which, in addition to seeing a number of sculptures from different eras, also gave us a good overview of the history of the area and the islands. That afternoon, we took a tour down to Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon. We got back just in time to see the changing of the guard in front of the Greek Parliament.
On our final day in Athens, we had arranged for the four of us to be picked up at the hotel, take a tour of Athens, and then get dropped off at the pier. However, since there was a taxi strike, instead of a small van, a full size bus showed up for just the four of us! Luggage space was not a problem... We visited the site of the original Olympic stadium, and various areas around the Acropolis including the Parthenon, and the new museum, before getting dropped off at our cruise ship. We sailed from Athens that night.
