Dubrovnik was amazing! A fortress of a port, which helped it maintain its independence through much of the middle ages.
We started the day with an excursion by bus to Cavtat. In addition to it's sparkling clear harbor (and giant yachts), it also is home to a number of the top Croatian water polo players. We then took a boat back to Dubrovnik.
We had a great walking tour of Dubrovnik, and then we walked around on our own for awhile, but there is clearly far more to explore! Every alley, every building, every corner seemed to have something new interesting to see, and history to hear about. Not all is pleasant (we visited the exhibit in memoriam for those who died during the siege in the early 1990's), but there was far more than we could see in the time we were there. Just as a teaser for those that want to learn more, Dubrovnik so distrusted politicians, that their Rectors served only one month terms...
