From Melbourne, we flew to Cairns, then took a small plane over the Great Barrier reef out to Lizard Island. The resort there was wonderful, very secluded, with lots of reefs. One afternoon, we checked out a dinghy and tooled around the island and lagoon, stopping at some of the beaches where we were the only ones around. Another morning we got up quite early to hike up to Cook's Look (1180 ft above sea level), where Captain Cook is said to have searched for a way out of the reef. And yes, there are lizards on Lizard Island!
