On the third day, it was overcast, with occasional showers, but this didn't really interfere and created interesting lighting and a rainbow or two. We again traveled through Tetons National Park, destined for Yellowstone National Park. This time, it was elk we saw on the way up. Our first stop in Yellowstone was the area around Old Faithful, so we walked around on the boardwalk seeing the usual sites (Old Faithful, Morning Glory Pool, etc.) We drove further, stopping at Fountain Paint Pot, and the Geyser Basin. We continued on around to vantage points for the upper and lower falls of the Yellowstone river, and then stopped at the mud volcano area (sweet smelling, indeed!) We started to head back out of the park, when we got halted by a herd of buffalo coming up the road, jamming traffic both ways. It seemed like a pretty every day occurrence for the herd.
