We had only a brief afternoon in Helsinki. Our excursion was to take a boat tour around some of the Helsinki waterfront and islands, and the get off at Suomenlinna Fortress for a walking tour. The fortress was built to defend Helsinki, and was used first by Sweden, then by Russia, and finally by Finland. It only saw fighting twice, failing to defend itself in both cases. Now its a UNESCO site, and popular for summer outings. The afternoon got cut short by a rainstorm, so unfortunately we didn't get a chance to wander around the waterfront area.
