This day started by passing through the Lemaire Channel. It is only 600 meters wide at its narrowest point, so once again the bridge was off limits.
But it is amazing scenery on both sides of the ship as you pass through, and it is very quiet water. For the first time on the trip, the weather was calm enough for the abbreviated versions of the helicopter trips to go out.
We then visited another ice field around Pleneau Island. We had a couple of young whales playing in the bow wake of the Eclipse.
After that, we headed back across Drake's Passage. This time it was a little rougher, with swells up to 15 feet. A little rocking and rolling, but nothing the ship couldn't handle.
Upon arriving back in Ushuaia, we had a gate (actually port) delay. The ship that had been Paul Allen's yacht was in our berth, and we had to wait for it to clear out.
Once we made port, it was a flight back to Buenos Aires, connecting to our flight back home.
Of course, there is a coda. During our connection in the US, we learned that people on the cruise were finding that they were testing positive for COVID. Sure enough, when we got home, we were positive as well. So it was a very quiet Christmas at home for the two of us.
